FAQS

Hopefully you’ll find the answer you’re looking for below. If not, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

The first step is to complete the application form on our website. This gives our coaching team the information they need about your child’s age, swimming experience and current ability. Once the form has been reviewed, we’ll contact you about the next step and, where appropriate, arrange a trial session so we can recommend the most suitable squad.

No. Many swimmers join us after completing learn to swim lessons and have never been part of a swimming club before. As long as your child is confident in the water and has reached the appropriate swimming standard, we'll help them settle into club swimming in a supportive environment.

Yes. We encourage prospective members to attend a trial session before joining. This gives your child the opportunity to experience training, meet our coaches and swimmers, and allows us to recommend the most appropriate squad for their age and ability.

Training requirements vary depending on the squad. Younger swimmers generally attend one or two sessions each week, while older and more experienced swimmers may train more frequently. Our coaches will recommend a training programme that's appropriate for your child's stage of development and swimming goals.

Competition is encouraged but always appropriate to each swimmer's age, experience and stage of development. Many swimmers begin by taking part in club events before progressing to open meets and county championships. For those with the ability and ambition, there are opportunities to progress through regional and national competition.

Most swimmers begin their journey by training at their chosen home pool, either Dunmow or Harlow. As swimmers develop, those who demonstrate the required ability, commitment and potential may be invited into one of our Pathway Squads.

These squads bring together swimmers from across the club and include training at both Dunmow and Harlow, together with additional training opportunities where appropriate. The aim is to provide a broader coaching programme that supports swimmers as they work towards county, regional and national competition.

Enjoys swimming and wants to continue improving

Would like to take part in competitions

Enjoys being part of a friendly team environment

Is keen to develop their technique and fitness

If you’re unsure whether your child is ready, we’re always happy to offer advice.
